The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
