Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
